The Gift of Focus with Dandapani

The Gift of Focus with Dandapani

For this year's Signature Event, join us for a morning workshop on The Gift of Focus with Dandapani! We'll have a soft start with coffee and a light breakfast at 8:30 am followed by a workshop from 9 am to 12 pm. You and your guests will learn practical tools & insights to help you lead and sustain a purpose-focused life! Then stay for lunch and connect with other EO'ers until 1 pm.

From the mundane to the important, from the habitual to the occasional, all tasks have a purpose. So shouldn’t life have a purpose as well? When you are clear on your purpose in life, you can build your entire life around it. But in order to know our purpose in life we must have the ability to focus so we can sustain a state of self-reflection long enough to discover what it is we want out of life.

With clear definitions and practicable exercises, Dandapani turns learning how to focus into a simple part of your everyday routine, resulting in sustainable change.

Whether you are seeking better results as a parent, a leader, or even a listener, this workshop will illustrate how practicing the skill of focus can drastically improve productivity, relationships, mental health, and happiness and permanently lay to rest mental maladies such as anxiety, stress, worry, fear, and distraction. And ultimately gifting us the ability to direct awareness and energy toward achieving our life goals by living a purpose-focused life. He’s received rave reviews from around the world and it is an event you won’t want to miss.

EO Raleigh Durham members, SLPs, Prospective Members, and Strategic Partners may attend for free, and all other attendees may attend for just $100. Every participant will receive Dandapani's book.

Who is Dandapani?

Dandapani is a Hindu priest, entrepreneur, and a former monk of 10 years. After graduating from university with a degree in Electrical Engineering he left it all behind to become an ordained Hindu monk under the guidance of one of Hinduism’s foremost spiritual leaders of our time, Sivaya Subramuniyaswami. For 10 years he lived a life of serious personal discipline and training at his guru’s cloistered monastery in Hawaii.

When his vows expired, he chose to venture out into the world making New York City his home. He works with entrepreneurs and some of the top athletes in the world in helping them understand and leverage their minds so that they can be the best at what they do. He does this by empowering them with tools and teachings that have been used by Hindu monks of his tradition for thousands of years. Among his clients are companies such as Fortress Investment Group, ICONIQ, McKinsey, AmericanExpress, Bloomberg LP, Sprinklr, Nike, Ribbit Capital, RedVentures, and more.

His book, The Power of Unwavering Focus, published by Portfolio and Penguin Random House is being translated into 23 languages. And his TEDx talk has over 6.5 million views. He currently lives in Nosara, Costa Rica, where he and his wife are passionately creating a 33-acre Hinduspiritual sanctuary and botanical garden to further their mission.

Psychedelics for Entrepreneurs with Matt Zemon

Join us for a learning event with our longtime member and past President Matt Zemon at Lulu Bang Bang from 4pm to 5:30pm! Then stay for a social from 5:30pm 7:00pm.

Matt Zemon doesn't believe everyone should take psychedelics, but he does believe that psychedelics are for everyone.

Psychedelics and entrepreneurs are a natural pairing for two reasons: one, entrepreneurs are generally risk-tolerant with a proclivity for experimentation, and two, probably more significantly, they are often in pain.

Many entrepreneurs experienced the phenomenon of "early promotion", meaning they were promoted into adulthood at an early age due to adversity of some sort. While the histories and wounds are different for every entrepreneur, redefining of purpose is a common unifier. In this interactive, humorous, and intimate session, Matt will share personal stories and medically-reviewed information on all aspects of psychedelics.

Objectives:

  • How psychedelics are being used for anxiety, depression, and optimization

  • Microdosing

  • The law

As a successful entrepreneur you aren’t exempt from burnout you are actually are a candidate for it! Yet there is a solution and that is found in the happiness rules. But how can you be happy when the high demands of running a thriving business can push you too far into a state of exhaustion and dissatisfaction.

If you leave it unaddressed, burnout can have profound effects on your personal and professional life.

The happiness rules are Dr. Manuel Astruc’s solution to designing a life in which you can flourish. He offers you practices developed using his knowledge of the mind and your motivations – all gathered from his decades of work as a psychiatrist. And these rules aren’t hypothetical; Manuel has used them himself to escape from the deepest reaches of burnout.

He works in his private practice and in the addiction field as the medical director of Saratoga County Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services. Dr. Astruc started his coaching company Your Next Act to take the wisdom he’s learned and bring it to business owners and entrepreneurs to help them battle the stress and mental exhaustion high achievers can feel. Dr. Astruc helps others recognize how focusing on their mental illness translates into greater success, both in life and in business.

Dr. Astruc is also the author of the Amazon bestselling book, Happiness Rules: Beat Burnout, Embrace Happiness, Become A Better Entrepreneur.

Signature Event: Weathering the Storm and Rebuilding after Scandal

Signature Event: Weathering the Storm and Rebuilding after Scandal

With an ever changing world we're finding it more difficult to find a consistent normal. If the last few years have taught us anything, we need to have a solid team behind us who can weather the storm. Take an afternoon with your key executives and/or significant other to pause and learn how you can recover from life's storms and rebuild to be a better person -- both now and in the future.

In this afternoon of learning we'll start with a workshop from top Duke professor Dr. Bryan Sexton on Bite-sized Wellbeing in Times of Uncertainty -- The Science of Wellness. Well-being has never been more important, and new evidence-based well-being resources have never been more impressive.

When our batteries are low, it means well-being tools have to be simple, quick and obviously effective (i.e., save yoga, meditation and weight-loss for another day). This session will enlighten and entertain, while demonstrating simple strategies to use during tense times. The tone is upbeat, the science of well-being is fascinating, and access to all of the tools is free. Why? Because we are still here and we earned it.

Then for our keynote talk, we'll hear the real-life, stranger than fiction story of Amanda Knox. Amanda was falsely convicted of murdering her roommate and was later exonerrated by the Italian Supreme Court. That victory didn't restore her damaged reputation, and she found herself forever battling a false image of her, her evil doppelganger, Foxy Knoxy. Every day since, she has fought to reclaim her identity, and to find meaning in those stolen years and unjust incarceration.

Now she is sharing the invaluable lessons she's learned by shedding light on the pervasive issues of wrongful conviction, public shaming, and our frequently imperfect methods of seeking truth. We'll even have time for you to ask Amanda questions about her experience.

After Amanda's talk, join us for a social with hors d'oeuvres and drinks!

Who is Amanda Knox?

  • Amanda Knox is an exoneree, journalist, public speaker, author of the New York Times best-selling memoir, Waiting to Be Heard, and co-host, with her partner Christopher Robinson, of the podcast Labyrinths. Between 2007 and 2015, she spent nearly four years in an Italian prison and eight years on trial for a murder she didn’t commit. She has since become an advocate for criminal justice reform and media ethics. She sits on the board of the Frederick Douglass Project for Justice. After four years in prison and eight years on trial for a murder she didn't commit, Amanda Knox was definitively acquitted by the Italian supreme court, but that victory didn't restore her damaged reputation, and she found herself forever battling a false image of her.

Who is Dr. Bryan Sexton, PhD?

  • Bryan Sexton, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Duke University School of Medicine and Director of Patient Safety Center in the Duke University Health System. Dr. Bryan Sexton has captured the wisdom of frontline workers through rigorous assessments of safety, culture, teamwork, and workforce resilience. With specializations in organizational assessment, teamwork, survey development, and quantitative methods, he spends his time teaching, mentoring, conducting research, and finding practical ways of getting busy people to do the right thing, by making it the easy thing to do. He has found that results across industries, work settings, shifts, professions, and countries highlight a great deal about reliability in high-risk environments – specifically, “you are better off changing the situation, than trying to change human nature.”

Lunch & Learn with Randy Nelson

Come join Randy H. Nelson, one of the top thought leaders over the past decade in the entrepreneurial space for his Lunch and Learn on Thursday December 1st.

“The 5 Entrepreneurial Tools Every EO RDU member must have in their toolbox for 2023”

Randy’s core purpose at The Decision Center in Garner, NC is to “Get the entrepreneur right at every stage of their career, first, and then to focus on their organization to 5-10X both their life and their organization”.

Key Takeaways from the 12/1 Lunch and Learn

  • Randy will share the top 5 tools from 2022 that have made the most impact with his US and global clients.

  • Each participant will walk away with their first draft of the 5 Tools…each tool is collaborative with any system the member has implemented (i.e. EOS, Scaling Up, 4DX, etc.)(1 + 1= 5+)

  • Randy will challenge each participant with their self-awareness growth, both internal and external (the top study on Self-Awareness found that 95% of people believe they are self-aware, but only 10-15% actually are self-aware)

  • Randy will give his insights on the coaching and consulting community and how to find the most value for your organization (The International Coaching Federation states that 82% of coaching businesses will fail within two years globally!)…His coaching and advising firm will turn 10 years old in 2023.

  • Randy will introduce his new “Full-Potential” Mastermind group he is forming in 2023…more to come in December!

Randy is one of the Co-Founders of the Raleigh EO Chapter (1998), an EO Member for 20 years, transitioning to an SAP for the chapter for the past 4 years. During his 30+ year entrepreneurial career, he has prided himself onlearning & implementing, attending the EO Birthing of Giants Program (now EMP), London Business School, various EO universities, Center for Creative Leadership, as well as attending Strategic Coach with Dan Sullivan for 4 years, and various Scaling Up/Gazelles Events over the past 20 years. His companies that he founded/co- founded are now 31, 21, and 9 years old, and have produced well over a billion dollars… they remain industry leaders today.

In 2013, Randy transitioned from building his own companies to focusing on coaching, mentoring, teaching and advising entrepreneurial leaders globally as they build their own companies. The preface of his newest book includes a coaching client’s growth story from 10 to 600 million over the past 7 years. Over the past ten years his focus has turned squarely to the Thought Leadership space … to writing books, public speaking, and business growth/ leadership development workshops (The third book in his Decision Series will be published in February 2023 – The Fourth Decision- the Maximized Entrepreneur). If you don’t already have copies of Randy’s first two best-selling books they will be given at the event:

  • The Second Decision – The Qualified Entrepreneur

  • The Third Decision – The Intentional Entrepreneur

Come join Randy on 12/1!

Women's Entrepreneurship Day Celebration

Join us for a Women's Entrepreneurship Day Celebration of the women entrepreneurs in our chapter! We'll enjoy a light breakfast and socializing with our fellow EO'ers as well as female entrepreneurs in our community.

Women entrepreneurs have unique struggles from men but not from each other. Several women of EO will briefly speak on their journey as an entrepreneur through the eyes of a woman, what the gift of entrepreneurship means to them, the one thing they wish they could have told their younger self. Then we'll host a brief Q&A panel where attendees can ask follow up questions about their journeys.

Men are welcome to attend this event, and this event is also open to female prospects. If you know someone who is EO-qualified, this is the perfect event for them to meet other female entrepreneurs!

Panel:

  • Allison Wood, Owner of DaVinci Education, EO Member since 2019

  • Brittany Laughlin, Stacks Open Internet Foundation, EO Member since 2022
